Seining Etiquette
Only take what you need:   The goal of seining is to
observe the number and variety of species of insect that you need to
imitate in fly tying and to help your on-stream fly selection.   However, only take what you need for the collection, and return the rest to the water.
Respect people's space:   Giving adequate space on the river is a very sensitive topic in the fishing community.   Seining is no different, and can even be more disruptive to someone actively fishing.   Approach it just as
you would a fishing situation.   Ask permission to step in above or below another person, or bite the bullet and find another stretch of river.
Share the wealth:   If there are other people in the area you will likely attract some attention.   Explain what you're doing, share the results and even one of the specimens.   Most people are amazed to see what's actually living in a river !
Safety
The same care you take in wading a river should be applied to seining activity.   During a 1 person seine, you'll be balancing on 1 foot, while kicking with the other and leaning on the seine itself.   Great recipe for taking a spill, so please be careful.
Legal Restrictions
Please consult your local Fish & Game regulations to determine if
collection of insect specimens is legal in your state.   Restrictions may be placed on specific species, waters and transport of live insects.
