Great Pattern & Tying books - We can't really talk entomology without covering the flies we use to imitate the bugs !

• Mayflies "Top to Bottom" Expert Fly Tying and Innovation (Shane Stalcup, 2002) Wonderful new book starts with a tying technique section and follows up with in-depth instructions for nymphs & adults alike. Each pattern is offered with several color variations using all the latest materials.
• Nymph Fly-Tying Techniques (Jim Shollmeyer, 2001) Everything you expect from Schollmeyer's depth of knowledge in entomology, tying and photography, focused solely on nymph imitations.
• Fly Patterns for Stillwaters, A Study of Trout Entomology and Tying (Philip Rowley, 2000) Less can be more. (This book covers just one fly per page) Each pattern is covered in history, fishing tactics and possible variations. Stillwater novices and experts alike will treasure this book.
• Essential Trout Flies (Dave Hughes, 2000) Still my "go to" book for flies. Each page covers one "style", 6 variations and fishing tactics. Perfect for tiers who like to experiment !

Online Fly Patterns - Digital photography and the internet allow us to peak at flies (& expert tiers) from around the world.

• Fly Tying World - Broad spectrum of flies searchable by pattern and originator. Some very innovative work including international tyers.
• Westfly Pattern DB - Pick a species, pull up representative patterns with links to techniques for fishing each pattern.
